Ferrara Buskers Festival is a non competitive parade of the best
street musicians in the world. In term of tradition and dimension
it is the most important festival of this kind. In 2001 about
800,000 people, coming from anywhere in Italy and from foreign
countries, croweded the beautiful medieval and Renaissance stage
in the historical centre of the town.
Every year the organisation invites 20 groups, but beside them
many other join the festival. Only last edition 177 different
shows were performed by a total of 660 artists coming from 21
different countries. The 2002 edition will be enriched by the
presence of a spanish gruop specialized in "sardanas",
music and dance that belong to Catolonia Reniassance. "Sardanas"
were very appreciated by Borgia family that was original of Catalonia.
The presence of the spanish group is an homage to catalan music
tradition which will be included in the Festival magic. During
the week of the Festival, Ferrara is trasformed into a music town,
a city to play, able to offer new atmosphere between old and new
sonorities.You can be guided by the sound of a celtic arp or to
sit down on the pavement to appreciate the emotionful notes of
a dixieland, rock, blues band
. Any kind of music ate the
Ferrara Buskers Festival has the right of citizenship, and there
are also some "virtuosos" playing the most original
instruments like saws, washboards, cowbells, teachest, cristal
glasses that have made the audience discover unexpected melodious
potentialities.. The buskers' music becomes in this way the soundtrack
of an ideal journey through the thousand world wide cultures and
the occasion to many people to discover a beutiful town that is
able to fascinate the travellers with the polychromy of notes,
faces and costumes.
